Fitzpatrick Skin Type Quiz
The Fitzpatrick Scale helps us to tailor your dermatological procedures like laser treatments or microneedling, which in turn will minimize your risk and optimize your outcome. It classifies skin types based on the color of your skin and how your skin responds to UV light. This scale ranges from Type 1 (very fair skin that always burns and never tans) to Type VI (very dark skin that never burns.)
Here is why it is crucial to skin type you correctly:
Laser Treatments: Lasers target pigment in the skin, such as melanin. Knowing the skin type helps us adjust the laser settings to effectively treat the skin without causing burns or pigmentation issues. For instance, darker skin types are mor susceptible to hyperpigmentation and may require different laser types or settings than lighter skin types.
Microneedling: While less dependent on skin color compared to laser treatments, understanding your skin type can help us anticipate the healing process and the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in darker skin types.
